It would have us not seek them at all, ignore them, eliminate the personal element altogether from our calculations. After the statement, "Learn of Me," Christ throws in the disconcerting qualification: "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me. He is infinitely more; He is a spirit, as Jesus said to the woman at the well, and in Him we live and move and have our being. His sermon, published in as a mere plus page book, has since sold more than 12 million copies, and it can transform our lives. Do not quarrel therefore with your lot in life. How much the world needs it.

Courtesy is said to be love in little things. Nothing that it contains is worth the life and consecration of an immortal soul. And the spectacle itself, the mere sight of it, will silently judge each one. How then are we to have this transcendent living whole conveyed into our souls? But on coming to close quarters with the actual life of most of us, how surely would he be disenchanted. It is a thing that we are living now, not that we get when we die; that we shall have a poor chance of getting when we die unless we are living now.

I read this letter recently and discovered that this book by Henry Drummond had so impressed him that he intended to acquire enough copies to provide one to each of his descendants. The sermon was sincerely meant to be practical, yet it contained no experience that seemed to me to be tangible, nor any advice that I could grasp—any advice, that is to say, which could help me to find the thing itself as I went about the world. All around us Christians are wearing themselves out in trying to be better. The first was only Stagnation; the last was Rest. And the one eternal lesson for us all is how better we can love What makes a man a good cricketer?

What was Christ doing in the carpenter's shop? Touchiness, when it becomes chronic, is a morbid condition of the inward disposition.

GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD.

They, also, should know "the The greatest thing in the world book that is life indeed. It is what God is. It is not a malicious contrivance for making work hard; it is a gentle device to make hard labor light. We have no The greatest thing in the world book to weigh one another's sins, and coarser and finer are but human words; but faults in the higher nature may be less venal than those in the lower, and to the eye of Him who is Love, a sin against Love may seem a hundred times more base.

God is Love. Eternal life also is to know God, and God is love. Their nature was not all in it. The greatest thing in the world book is better not to live than not to love. And I believe it is an easier way than any other. Do not offer them merely joy, or merely peace, or merely rest, or merely safety; tell them how Christ came to give men a more abundant life than they have, a life abundant in love, and therefore abundant in salvation for themselves, and large in enterprise for the alleviation and redemption of the world.

Souls are made sweet not by taking the acid fluids out, but by putting something in--a great Love, a new Spirit, the Spirit of Christ. After some years, when she was twelve years old, they took her to him and he began to talk to her through the young lady who had been the means of opening her senses, and who could communicate with her by the exceedingly delicate process of touch.

It has gone. Before the book was published inan invitation from the African Lakes Company drew Drummond away to Central Africa. You buy the old editions of the great encyclopaedias for a few pence. You cannot look at it and see that young man standing in the field with his hat off, and the girl opposite him with her hands clasped and her head bowed on her breast, without feeling a sense of God.

Rest and Peace are but calms in man's inward nature, and arise through causes as definite and as inevitable. That was another thing that was greatly coveted. Stand before that mirror, reflect Christ's character, and you will be changed into the same image from tenderness to tenderness.

Jealousy, anger, pride, uncharity, cruelty, self-righteousness, touchiness, doggedness, sullenness—these are the ingredients of this dark and loveless soul. Paul had no charge against these things in themselves.

It is quite interesting and a quick read-- and I did enjoy seeing how Drummond illuminated the meaning of Saint Paul's words, and especially I was happy to read his explanation of "through a Starts out with the famous passage from Saint Paul, which contains the well-known phrase "when I was a child, I used to talk as a childBiography of Henry Drummond (), scientist, evangelist, author of many books including the multi-million selling, The Greatest Thing in the World.
